Shipbuilders in South Jeolla Working to Win 300-mi

Writer administ Posted at 2010-06-23
According to Yonhap News,

The South Jeolla provincial government announced on June 15th that negotiations are underway between ship building firms headquartered in the province and potential buyers for deals worth 320 million dollars in total in Posidonia 2010, an international exhibition of shipbuilding and marine leisure in Greece.

In the exhibition held from June 7th and 11th, South Jeolla-based companies - Daehan Shipbuildng, Sekwang Shipping, Shinwoo Corporation and SNI - participated and engaged in 48 consultations for orders with buyers.

In addition, six companies took part in Korea International Boat Show 2010, held in Jeongok Port in Gyeonggi Province from June 9th to 13th, to consult with potential buyers. From the 21 consultation cases, they are expected to win orders worth 400 million won.

The South Jeolla Province was Korea’s first local government to set up a joint booth at the international exhibition to help the firms win orders. They regard their efforts as a big boost for those firms in striking contracts.

“Despite the sluggish shipbuilding industry, Korea’s shipbuilding companies are recognized by the international community for its outstanding skills and state-of-the-art technologies,” said Jeong Sun-ju, head of the Strategic Industry department of the South Jeolla provincial government. “We will keep making efforts to support shipbuilding companies so that they can participate in international exhibitions to raise their profile on the global stage.”
