Writer administ Posted at 2010-05-24
According to Yonhap News,

South Jeolla Province announced May 10th that they will partner with Chuncheon City and Jangheung-gun and channel all of their energy and resources into attracting Traditional Medicine Expo 2013, organized to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the publication of Donguibogam (A series of books written by Heo Jun, a Korean medical scientist, during the Joseon Dynasty).

Traditional Medicine Expo 2013, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, will be injected with 40 billion won from the central government. The Expo is to secure international competitiveness of the Korean medicine and to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the publication of Donguibogam and its registration on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register list.

South Jeolla Province, Chuncheon City and Jangheung-gun will work together to make sure that everyone knows that the region is the best place for the Expo by highlighting its quality agricultural and fishery products such as raw herbs.

They will stress the fact that the region is establishing a Korean medicine promotion center, a center for provision of medicinal crop seeds, and a park, where visitors can learn what Sasang constitutional medicine is through experiences, and making an effort to turn the Korean medicine into an industry through branding of gold chicken, (chicken which is fed with gold), and sprouts with medicinal effects.

South Jeolla Province expects the Expo to generate 1.8 trillion won in production and 900 billion won in added value. In addition, it is expected to create 15,000 jobs and bring in 6 million visitors from both home and abroad.

“If we make the best out of the structures constructed for the International Garden Exposition for the Expo, we don’t have to spend money on building them from the scratch,” said Bae Yang-ja, head of the Welfare and Gender Equality department of the South Jeolla provincial government. “It will also give us a chance to advocate Jeongnamjin in Jangheung as a special district for raw herbs.”
