South Jeolla Attracted Nuclear Power Plant and Vil

Writer administ Posted at 2010-04-28
South Jeolla signed a 21.7-billion-won investment agreement with Mujin Energy Plant and Goryeo Cheonggiwa.

As South Jeolla Province has succeeded in attracting a nuclear power plant and a hanokchon (a village for Korea’s traditional houses), they are expected to greatly contribute to enhancing the image South Jeolla has as a green province and revitalizing the regional economy.

South Jeolla Province forged a 21.7-billion-won investment agreement at Jeonnam Development Corporation on April 22nd in the presence of Lee Sang-myeon, lieutenant governor of political affairs; Seo Jong-bae, lieutenant governor of Yeongam; Lim Jeong-hwan, lieutenant governor of Jindo; Jo Seong-yeun, head of Mujin Energy Plant; and Gang Deok-il, head of Goryeo Cheonggiwa.

Under the agreement, Mujin Energy Plant is planning to invest 12.9 billion won into Yeongam Daebul Industrial Complex, an optimal place for marine transportation, to produce assist equipment for a nuclear power plant and engage in a variety of fields such as pressure vessel, transport container, heat exchanger, and chemical plant.

Goreyo Cheonggiwa is expected to invest 8.8 billion won to establish a hanokchon in Euisin-myeon in Jindo.

The establishment of hanokchon is in line with the province’s plan to promote creation of hanokchons. The project is expected to provide a fertile ground for expansion of hanoks(Korea's traditional houses) and attract more tourists.

The 21.9-billion-dollar investments made by the two companies are likely to create 151 jobs. The investments are worth attention because they came despite unfavorable situations such as sluggish regional economy. Better yet, they are expected to create jobs in the region.

“To ensure the success of the companies which invest in South Jeolla, we will do our best to provide administrative and financial support, help them get a loan, and host joint meeting for investors,” said Lee Sang-myeon, lieutenant governor for political affairs, in the ceremony. “We will never cease our efforts to support them.”
