--South Jeolla Province signs a collaboration agreement with BRC on March 23rd to establish a Complex in Okam
The government of South Jeolla Province is planning to turn Namak New Town into a center of the biomedical industry.

South Jeolla Province held the signing ceremony of the collaboration agreement- to build a 500,000-square-meter biomedical complex on university site in Okam- in the Jeong Yak-yong room in the provincial government building on March 23rd. The ceremony was attended by Park Jun-young, Mayor of South Jeolla Province; Jeong Jong-deuk, Mayor of Mokpo; Lee Eon, head of BRC; Woo Je-chang, administrative director of Mokpo National University; and the president of Mokpo Hankook Hospital.

The biomedical complex, which will be set up on university site and site for medical support facilities in Nam-ak New Town, is expected to utilize a 360-billion-won investment to house support facilities for development of new medicine, and for development of advanced medical equipment, center for treatment of severe injuries and a medical school, creating 3,000 jobs, including medical researcher positions.

Under the MOU, BRC will be in charge of attracting an investment from digital clinic centers and biopharmaceutical companies, and Mokpo National University takes over works regarding attracting medical schools and BT graduate schools, supervising biomedical research, and training professionals. Hankook Hospital will make an effort to expand public medical facilities such as state-of-the-art digital hospitals, emergency information centers, and cardiovascular centers.

BRC is a global company established by Gacheon Gil Foundation, the owner of Gachon University of Medicine and Science and Gil Hospital, through a joint investment between Gachon Gil Foundation and Incheon Urban Development Corporation.

The company is planning to build a research center, center for clinical trials, and an apartment-type factory for production of medical equipment and medicine by making an 802.4-billion-won investment on the 205,000-square-meter land on Song-do in Incheon.

Park Jun-young, Mayor of the province, said that “the agreement with BRC, a global biomedical company, has provided South Jeolla Province a chance to become a leader in fulfilling the global demand for medical services.”
