South Jeolla Pushes for Advanced Glass Greenhouse

Writer administ Posted at 2010-02-23
According to Yonhap News,
The Jeollanam-do provincial government is mounting tremendous effort to win the government-led project to build a high-tech glass greenhouse for produce production and export.

The South Jeolla government announced on January 24 that the Korea Rural Community Corporation designated three candidate areas for the advanced glass greenhouse project including the Goheung bay area, Hwaong, Gyeonggi province, and Seokmun, South Chungcheong province, and has been drawing investment from the private sector.

The high-tech glass greenhouse project will be implemented though private-public partnership with KRW 10.6 billion from the government to establish infrastructure including power generation and communications facilities and KRW 38 billion from the private sector to build plant-raising ground, low-temp storage, and warehouse.

The provincial government will hold an investment seminar to attract private project companies on January 26 and accept applications from March 15 to March 19. The corporation will select the private partner by April after a thorough review and deliberation by experts, and the site will be determined by the private investor.

The Goheung bay area, reclaimed more than 12 years ago, has stable foundation, with high average temperature in winter and abundant daily sunlight. The South Jeolla government will promote Goheung as the site with the most adequate climate conditions for the greenhouse project in an attempt to attract private investors.

A Jeollanam-do provincial government official said, “We will spare no effort to win the bid for the advanced glass greenhouse project by organizing a consortium of private investor and agrarian community.”
