The “Korea Southern Coast Cup,” launched in 2020 by Jeollanam-do Province, Busan Metropolitan City, and Gyeongsangnam-do Province to create a marine leisure tourism belt and popularize yachting culture as a part of their efforts to coordinate mutual development in the region, sets sail for the fourth time on the 13th.

According to Jeollanam-do Province, Vice Governor Park Chang-hwan attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 Korea Southern Coast Cup at the Nurimaru APEC House in Haeundae-gu, Busan, to support the participants from Jeollanam-do.

A total of 26 yachts and 300 sailors and officials from 10 countries, including South Korea, the United States, China, Japan, and Russia, participated in the event, which started at the Suyeongman Bay Yachting Center in Busan and ended on the 16th at Ungcheon Marina in Yeosu, passing through Donamhang Port in Tongyeong.

Vice Governor Park Chang-hwan commented, “We look forward to welcoming more visitors from around the world to the southern coast of Korea with the Korea Southern Coast Cup, which will showcase the beautiful scenery of the Namhaean region to the world and raise its status as a center for the marine leisure industry.” He added, “I am confident that the mutual development of the Namhaean region, with its infinite potential and value, will open up new horizons for tourism in Korea and achieve mutual prosperity between the two provinces and Busan Metropolitan City.”

He continued, “This year is the ‘Visit Jeollanamdo Year,’ when we will be hosting renowned and well-regarded festivals like the Suncheonman International Garden Expo throughout the year. We hope that you visit and support our province of Jeollanam-do.”

The Korea Southern Coast Cup 2023 will be co-hosted by Jeollanam-do Province, Busan Metropolitan City, and Gyeongsangnam-do Province; organized by the Korea Southern Coast Cup Organizing Committee; and sponsored by the city of Yeosu, Tongyeong, and the Korea Sailing Federation.

The three governments of Jeollanam-do, Busan, and Gyeongsangnam-do have hosted the Korea Southern Coast Cup since 2020 to pioneer new yacht sailing routes, promote the yachting industry, and highlight the beautiful tourist opportunities on Korea’s southern coast.
