“Visit Jeollanamdo Year Seoul Festival” in Gwanghwamun

Celebrating the second year of “20222023 Visit Jeollanamdo Year,” Jeollanam-do (Jeonnam) will host the “Visit Jeollanamdo Year Season 2 Seoul Festival” at Gwanghwamun Plaza in Seoul at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st, with 10,000 guests, including locals and Seoul citizens, attending.
The event, which will run for two days until the 22nd, will be held as a meaningful event to declare the “first year of global Jeonnam tourism taking a great leap forward” for Jeollanam-do’s goal to attract “100 million tourists” and “3 million overseas tourists.”
Jeollanam-do was the first local government to hold the event in Gwanghwamun Plaza since COVID-19, with an opening ceremony and a special performance. Booths promoting four major events, including Suncheonman International Garden Expo, will be displayed, as well as promotional booths introducing tourist attractions and festivals representing 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, ilovegohyang donation system, and return-to-farm related policies. A tourism photo exhibition for the Jeonnam tour will also be held.
On the first day, an opening ceremony will be held for the Visit Jeollanamdo Year promotion ambassadors, including “Korean Englishman,” a famous influencer with 5.6 million followers. Various events will also be held, including K-pop concerts by famous artists, such as singer Ailee, AB6IX, and H1-KEY.
In particular, Jeollanam-do signed an agreement with leading domestic (inbound) travel companies, such as LotteJTB Co. Ltd., Modetour International, and HanaTour ITC, which sell domestic travel products overseas. With this agreement, Jeollanam-do is expected to attract foreign tourists and lead to developing tourism in the province.
“Suncheonman International Garden Expo in April will be followed by various mega events and more than 100 colorful festivals, including the Jeonnam International SUMUK Biennale, the International Namdo Food Festival, and the Korean National Sports Festival,” said Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Yung-rok. “Thus, we’re inviting Seoul citizens to visit Jellanam-do, the center of K-tourism in the world, where you can be satisfied anytime, anywhere.”
On the second day, the promotion hall will be the venue of four major events (mega events), including the Suncheonman International Garden Expo, the Jeonnam International SUMUK Biennale, the International Agriculture Exhibition, and the 104th Korean National Sports Festival to be held in Jeollanam-do this year. To inform the public, a special live broadcast of the terrestrial broadcast “6 o’clock My Hometown” will also be held, which is expected to attract on-site visitors.
Jeollanam-do has made 2023 the first year in which global Jeonnam tourism takes a great leap forward and aims to create a “success model for the year of Visit Jeollanamdo Year.” In line with the changing tourism trend since COVID-19, Jeollanam-do plans to hold various events throughout the year, including the “Pet Festival,” which could be enjoyed in the era of 10 million companion families with pets, the “Camping Tourism Exhibition,” which is launched for the 7 million people who love camping, and the “Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Festival,” which is for the MZ generation.
