Writer administ Posted at 2010-01-21
According to Yonhap News,
The southwestern coastal tourism and leisure city project of the South Jeolla provincial government, dubbed as J Project, is expected to begin in earnest during the latter half of this year. The South Jeolla provincial government announced on January 10 that the Corporate City Development Committee of Prime Minister’s Office approved the development plan of Guseong district among the six development districts under the J project.

The South Jeolla provincial government submitted the Guseong district development plan to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sports in December 2007 and won the approval in two years.

Seven parties including Bosung Construction, Hanyang Corporation, Namhai Construction, GWangju Bank, Korea Tourism Organization, Jeonnam Development Corporation, and the South Jeolla provincial government have formed a project company named Southwest Costal Corporate City Development Co., which will invest KRW 5 trillion in a 21,866,000㎡ site in Guseong-ri, Sani-myeon, Haenam-gun by 2025.

Under the plan, the Guseong district will be developed into a self-sufficient tourism and leisure city with population of over 18,300.

The district, which will serve various functions including tourism, leisure, culture, housing, industry, and education, is likely to generate KRW 11.8 trillion in production output, KRW 2.4 trillion in income, and KRW 4.9 trillion in added value, and create 120,000 new jobs, thereby contributing to local economic growth and balanced national development, and job creation.

North Jeolla province will consigned the execution plan for the Guseong district to a service provider within this month and break ground during the latter half of this year.
