Enjoy Jeongwol Daeboreum Event at Korea’s Major Attractions

Writer 관리자 Posted at 2018-03-13
This year’s Jeongwol Daeboreum, the first full moon of the Lunar New Year, falls on March 2. When Jeongwol Daeboreum comes around, Koreans celebrate the full moon with hopes of a great year ahead with traditional customs and events, such as cracking bureom (mixed nuts consisting of pine nuts, chestnuts, walnuts, and peanuts) in the morning and watching the moon or performing jwibulnori (burning grass and weeds) at night.

To celebrate the occasion, the National Folk Museum of Korea and Namsangol Hanok Village will be holding a variety of events, introducing Korea’s customs and traditions to international visitors.

The National Folk Museum of Korea’s Great Full Moon Festival will take place on February 28. Visitors will be able to try yakbap (sweet sticky rice made with dates, chestnuts, and other ingredients), bureom, and gwibalgisul (cold rice wine), as well as participate in traditional experience programs like making a full moon badge, kite, straw rope, and traditional games. Gwibalgisul is especially worth a try as it is said to help the imbiber hear only good news in the coming year. Starting from 11:00 a.m. on the day of Jeongwol Daeboreum, the first 200 visitors will be able to receive bureom.

As for Namsangol Hanok Village, the Flaming Friday, First Moon Festival will take place on the afternoon of March 2. Diverse experience programs and exciting performances will be prepared to entertain visitors. In particular, a reenactment performance of bukcheong sajanareum shamanism and burning daljip (heap of straws or twigs) are spectacular traditional events not to be missed.
