Mokpo Opens Korea’s First Ceramic Industry Support

Writer administ Posted at 2009-11-10
According to Yonhap News,
Mokpo has opened the first ceramic industry support center in Korea, which is designed to research and develop non-oxide ceramic parts and materials and support relevant industries.

The Mokpo city government announced on October 12 that it will hold the launching ceremony of the Comprehensive Ceramic Industry Support Center in Sabjin Inudstrial Complex located in Yeongsan-dong on October 13 with Mokpo mayor Jeong Jong-deuk and CEOs of local ceramic companies.

Non-oxide ceramics are considered as a promising material with significant growth potential, with wide applications in automobile, machine, energy and environment, semiconductor and display, aerospace and defense, steel and chemical industries.

A total of KRW 30 billion including central and provincial government funds has been invested to build the Comprehensive Ceramic Industry Support Center, which will support ceramic manufacturers in ceramic component research, business incubation, prototype production, technology development and support for test production.

The center signed investment deals to the tune of KRW 29 billion with four fine ceramic companies in March. Seven companies are expected to launch business in its business incubation center.

Mokpo Mayor said, “We will set up Mokpo General Ceramic Industrial Complex and transform Mokpo into the central city of the ceramic industry. We will continue to work on creating a non-oxide ceramic parts and materials innovation cluster of about 40 companies that can hire more than 500 jobs and turn KRW 100 billion in sales profits.”
