On June 12, Jeollanam-do held a successful “Our Neighborhood Welfare Mobilization Corps Hanmadang” event at the Hanium Culture and Sports Center in Hwasun to identify vulnerable households in the province and provide quick support.

More than 900 people attended the event, including Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Yung-rok, Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly Vice Chairman Kim Tae-gyun, Hwasun County Governor Gu Bog-gyu, and members of 22 cities and counties welfare mobilization corps.

The event, which was the first of its kind, encouraged the hard work and dedication of the mobilization corps members, who have been actively practicing warm and beautiful volunteer activities to alleviate the hardships faced by our neighbors. The event included a pre-event, a commemoration ceremony, and a gathering to foster camaraderie among the participants.

Following the pre-event performance by the Jeonnam Provincial Institute for Korea Traditional Performing Arts, the commemoration ceremony featured a special event to boost the morale and pride of the welfare mobilization corps members. The event included the induction ceremony of 22 welfare mobilization corps leaders from various cities and counties, as well as the distribution of badges to the welfare mobilization corps members. Furthermore, a video showcasing the accomplishments of the welfare mobilization corps was presented, reflecting on their past activities and reaffirming their commitment to further efforts in improving the welfare of the vulnerable.

In addition, there was a performance where the welfare mobilization corps members transformed a dilapidated house into a new home, creating a meaningful and empathetic moment for all members of the mobilization corps to come together as one. In the afternoon, a congratulatory performance took place, followed by a sports event consisting of eight teams from two to three cities and counties. This event provided a time for the mobilization corps members to communicate, unite, and foster harmony among themselves.

Governor Kim Yung-rok stated, “The dedicated service of the welfare mobilization corps, who selflessly volunteer to help vulnerable households facing difficult living conditions at the forefront of welfare sites, has been a great force in creating a happy era in Jeollanam-do.” He further expressed, “I will carefully examine and create conditions where more residents can receive assistance by expanding the programs, and ensure that the welfare mobilization corps members can volunteer happily with pride and fulfillment.”

In addition, various programs such as photo booths, where instant photo printing is available, photo zones, tarot readings, and healing beauty were held as supplementary events. The “Jeonnam Happy Bus,” crisis household support calls (120), traffic safety promotion, safety experience, and policy promotion activities were also conducted.

Jeollanam-do also announced plans to enhance the capacity of the local welfare mobilization corps and promote the activation of the online platform called “Our Neighborhood SOS” to empower the welfare mobilization corps to become a flagship welfare initiative in Jeollanam-do. The government will also expand welfare policies, including the identification of vulnerable populations through collaboration with crisis household support calls (☎120).
