Thai tourists, a large-scale visit to Jeollanam-do

- The first charter flight landed at Muan International Airport on the 30th. Around 13,000 people are expected this year -

On the 30th, Jeollanam-do Province collaborated with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) to host a welcome ceremony at Muan International Airport’s international arrival hall for the first landing of a charter flight from Bangkok.

The arrival of this flight complies with the “Business Agreement for Charter Flights between Bangkok and Muan International Airport,” signed at the Jeonnam tourism briefing session held in Bangkok, Thailand, on the 16th and attended by Governor Kim Yung-rok of Jeollanam-do Province.

About 2,400 Thai tourists are expected to visit Jeollanam-do through Muan International Airport on 14 occasions until the end of March.

Governor Kim Yung-rok, Muan County Mayor Kim San, Muan County Council Chairman Kim Gyeong-yeon, and Korea Tourism Organization Gwangju/Jeollanam-do Office Director Lee Sang-tae attended the welcome ceremony.

Governor Kim Yung-rok greeted the tourists and expressed his welcome by saying, “Welcome to Jeollanam-do Province. I hope you make many pleasant memories in Jeollanam-do, Korea’s best tourist destination with wonderful natural scenery and rich historical and cultural resources, such as islands and seas.”

As many as 10,000 additional tourists from Thailand are expected to visit Jeollanam-do not only by charter flights through Muan International Airport but also by regular flights through other regional airports.

The first 174 tourists arriving through this charter flight intend to visit major tourist attractions in Jeollanam-do over three nights and four days, such as Mokpo Marine Cable Car, Sinan County’s Purple Island, and Damyang Juknokwon.

Jeollanam-do Province plans to continue attracting Southeast Asian tourists with a focus on countries subject to visa-free entry at Muan International Airport beginning in March this year, such as Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia, following Thailand. A visa-free system allows foreigners to stay in Korea without a visa for 15 days.
